The Microsoft Developer Platform Today and Tomorrow
Microsoft demonstrates Visual Studio's no-reg COM wrapper.

VSLive! Orlando, September 13, 2004

Watch a 10-minute video clip of the keynote!

Stephanie Saad
Visual Studio
Program Manager

During his keynote at VSLive! Orlando, Microsoft Corporate VP S. Somasegar announced the final member of the Visual Studio 2005 family, the Standard Edition, aimed at converting VB6 developers who haven't made the move to .NET. One significant feature is the ability to use VB6 code from Visual Studio .NET with a "no-reg COM wrapper."

In a demonstration with beta software, Visual Studio Program Manager Stephanie Saad showed a wizard that added a reference to a COM component and generated an interop wrapper that "converted the code to reg-free COM." Watch this video clip for details.
